Peter Burgess came back again, this time for a stable mate for his Baidarka, Raido-Beta. Peter chose one of Brian Shultz’s Cape Falcon Kayak F1 kayaks so that friends could come along when he goes paddling down on the Mornington Peninsula.
We decided to build this one in Pawlonia, an even lighter timber than my more usual Western Red Cedar. The result – a weight saving of just short of a kg overall……..
After sourcing all the materials – Paulownia from John White and bamboo for the ribs, and the Balistic Nylon and Urethane from Corey Freedman, I was ready to go. Here you can see my F1 built with Brian Schulz looking on with interest.

All you will need to bring is some lunch. Morning and afternoon tea/coffee is provided, and if you’re good, a glass of wine or a beer to gloat over progress at the end of the day. We launch on the final day and have an hour on the water working through the fine points of the Cape Falcon Kayak and the Greenland paddle……
